Lecia Gill, Spirt of Christmas Society Creator, explains that as a first-time parent celebrating Christmas at home with family, she made a mistake. That mistake ended up with her 10-year-old niece not having a smooth Spirit of Christmas transition. Lecia says, “I was known as Sister Christmas. I LOVE everything about the Christmas Season! It was horrible to know that because I was sleep deprived with a newborn, I had made such a mistake. It was difficult for my niece and even more so for her parents.”
Lecia continues, “I watched my sister and brother-in-law struggle with their own emotions around this milestone in their daughter’s life. It was a bittersweet moment in their lives. My thought was that there must be something ‘out there’ to celebrate this transition of discovery.”
That’s how this idea came into existence. Why does this have to be so hard? Or does it? That’s when the Guardian Oath idea launched. It’s a new tradition added to a very old tradition.
